The unusual history of IP44.de
IP44.de is a young and progressive company that is conservative at the same time. We are conservative when it comes to quality standards and production details. Our technologies on the other hand are decidedly progressive. And our history? Well, this has only just begun.

The history of IP44.de begins in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, East Westphalia, and with a family company that has been providing discerning customers with advice when it comes to lighting and light planning for three generations. Time and again, we have come up against the same problem: as far as outside use is concerned, there simply weren?t any lights that we could recommend with a clear conscience. And so one day we started to develop our own. This is how the company IP44.de started. Today, its outside lights warm the hearts of customers not just in Rheda-Wiedenbrück but throughout Europe, the USA and even Asia.

IP44.de outside lighting was founded in 1993 by Bernd Schmalhorst. His diligent management brought growth to the company, and he is still in charge today. He makes sure that we concentrate solely on what we do best: making uncompromisingly perfect outside lamps. These are still designed, constructed and pro-duced exclusively here in Germany. And because our avowal to "made in Germany" also makes a statement about our quality standards, we have deliberately included the ".de" suffix in our logo.

Our name is taken from a well-established industrial standard. Basically, "IP44" says that a lamp is suitable for outdoor use. Without doubt this applies to our lamps. But right from the start, we have gone far beyond all the standards. With both aesthetic and durable surfaces. With imperishable materials such as glass, stainless steel or aluminium. With top quality electronic components. And with German production partners who put it all together for us in accordance with the strictest possible quality standards.
